Scooters – The Best Way to Get Around

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Scooters

As a scooter-riding devotee, it’s struck me lately that there are not really any good guides out there for those considering it as their preferred mode of transport. I mention this as it was just the other day that a friend of mine was asking where he should look for advice regarding the best models and prices of scooters. After giving my own tips, I told him I would have a look online and send him some stuff that he could look at more thoroughly but I found it really difficult to find any websites that could help me. Does anyone know of any?

I think more and more people are looking at scooters as a much easier and affordable way to get around. One of the main reasons why I’m such a fan is the amount of time I save when commuting, how little it is affected by traffic and of course the low running costs (especially with the continuing hikes in fuel prices). And the free parking usually helps as well! I’ve been able to convince a few friends over the years that a scooter is a great choice however, when it comes to advice when buying and what to look out for, I’ve found it surprisingly hard to do so.

There’s a huge range of manufacturers out there so I know it can be daunting, I certainly thought so when I bought my first scooter. One of my main instructions is to stay away from Chinese-made scooters available at temptingly low prices and from smaller dealers. Used scooters are fine, but the quality of these Chinese-made ones is shockingly bad. They will deteriorate quickly and will more than likely break down not long after you get it. I’ve known one or two easily-trusting friends that have fallen victim to these. You also have to watch out for poor warranties and spare parts that can be difficult to get hold of. With the amount of money you’ll likely spend repairing scooters like these you could have bought yourself another scooter or a used motorcycle.

I’d be interested to hear what other people rank as good advice when it comes to finding scooters or used motorcycles for sale, what you should avoid and best places to look etc.
